Charlotte > This black bear and a companion hung out by the petrified tree.
Charlotte > ...and we saw black bears, lots of black bears.
Charlotte > While this black bear was too far away to get a nice shot, I did get him scratching his back. He really enjoyed it, too. In fact, after leaving the tree, he came back and did it all over again.
Charlotte > Just Another Bear
It is something of a Park joke that visitors see so many animals that they are soon saying, "Oh, that's just another bear."  (Or buffalo, or elk, or whatever.)
Charlotte > The winter of 2007-2008 saw an unusual amount of snow in the high country.  This drove the elk lower to have their calves, which brought the bears down to prey on them.  We saw a great many black bears.
